ITS (Insulin, Transferrin, Selenium) is a chemically defined
supplement for a variety of cell culture applications. ITS
supplement contains components which are required for optimal
performance of serum-free media. Supplementation of ITS to
different conventional nutrient media substantially reduces the
FBS requirement for routine maintenance of many cell lines.
Components: Contains 1.0 mg/ml insulin from bovine pancreas, 0.55
mg/ml human transferrin (substantially iron-free), and 0.5 μg/ml
sodium selenite.

containing 20% human albumin (w/v). It is prepared by
cold-alcohol fractionation from pooled human plasma obtained from

No-Worries ™ bovine pituitary extract (BPE) comes from
USDA-approved sources in New Zealand. Geographically isolated,
New Zealand livestock is internationally recognized as free from
bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, mad-cow disease) and,
unlike Australia, has no history of bluetongue disease in cattle.
Gemini’s chicken embryo extract is prepared from 9-12 day old
eggs. It is processed as a 50% extract in phosphate-buffered
saline that is supplemented with antibiotic:antimycotic. The
liquid extract is sterile filtered to 0.2 µm and lyophilized in
10mL aliquots. The sterility of this lyophilized powder cannot be
guaranteed and should be sterile filtered once more after
reconstitution.

original cold-ethanol plasma fractionation process developed in
1939 by Professor Edwin Cohn. Its characteristics include a

increasing the viscosity and protein levels in certain antibiotic
assay media, to bind inhibitors in growth media, and as a
