No-Worries ™ fetal bovine serum comes from USDA-approved sources
in Australia and New Zealand. Geographically isolated, livestock
is internationally recognized as free from bovine spongiform
encephalopathy (BSE, mad-cow disease).
GemCell ™ fetal bovine serum is exclusively of U.S. origin. It
meets the highest industry standards for endotoxin and hemoglobin
levels and supports the growth of the widest variety of cell
lines.
Gemini’s BenchMark ™ fetal bovine serum meets the same stringent
quality standards as our GemCell ™ product. This quality product
comes from USDA-approved sources such as the United States,
Canada, & Mexico.
Gemini’s Foundation ™ fetal bovine serum is intended for the
customer who wants excellent cell growth while buying at the most
economical prices. This material originates from USDA-approved
sources and goes through the same filtration schemes and final
quality-control testing as our other grades. This material is
distinguished from our BenchMark ™ FBS by allowing higher levels
of hemoglobin and/or endotoxin.
FetalPlex ™ is an engineered complex of animal sera, supplemented
with a defined blend of vitamins, amino acids, triglycerides and
trace elements. This proprietary formulation yields a serum that
will, for many routine applications, replace fetal bovine serum
at a much lower cost. Biochemical characteristics are comparable
to fetal bovine serum, except for an increase in the total
protein content. Also, cholesterol levels are slightly higher
than in fetal bovine sera. FetalPlex ™ is not intended to replace
fetal bovine serum where low total-protein concentrations are
critical, or where the trouble-free biochemistry of FBS is the
only choice for fastidious cell lines or specialized
applications. FetalPlex ™ has proven useful and cost-effective
for the growth and maintenance of a broad range of cell types.
