No-Worries ™ bovine pituitary extract (BPE) comes from USDA-approved sources in New Zealand. Geographically isolated, New Zealand livestock is internationally recognized as free from bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, mad-cow disease) and, unlike Australia, has no history of bluetongue disease in cattle. Gemini’s BPE is made from fresh, unfrozen glands to ensure maximal mitogenic response. It is not lyophilized, as this process has been shown to reduce biological activity. This product is an aqueous extract formulated at 14 mg/mL crude protein. Growth tests on human mammary epithelial cells, epidermal keratinocytes, prostatic and bronchial epithelial cells indicate that the optimal medium supplementation rate is 35 µg/mL. However, because this product is a complex mixture of factors, different cell types may require adjusted supplementation levels. A simple growth assay, titrating BPE into your system, may be useful.
