In November of 2019, Gemini Bio purchased Orflo Technologies, a flow cytometry instrument-based company located in Ketchum, Idaho where the Orflo products are manufactured. Gemini is growth-focused and is expanding and enhancing its manufacturing capabilities driving toward higher quality and compliance standards commensurate with the needs of the commercial therapeutic space. Gemini is augmenting its product portfolio through acquisitions, internal innovation, and partnerships.


Position Summary

Gemini Bio is looking to hire a full-time Technical Support and Service Engineer for its NextGen Flow Cytometry products.  This position will work with the associate vice president to establish protocols for return material authorizations (RMA) of instrument, technical support inquiries for instrumentation and disposables used on the instruments, perform or schedule repairs, and develop protocols for customer specific applications.  This candidate will also work as part of a team performing web-based demonstrations to prospective customers and addressing questions from the field application specialists.  This position will report directly to the associate vice president of Orflo products.



Working in a small company environment requires that our employees embrace evolving and diverse responsibilities.  Some expected responsibilities of the Technical Support and Service Engineer are:

  • Core Responsibilities:
    • Technical and sales support inquiries.   The ideal candidate will serve as the key person for:
      • Instrumentation and Cassette questions
      • Biological Protocol/Sample Preparation Assistance
      • Escalate issues as necessary, in a timely fashion, to the AVP, Orflo Products
      • Salesforce System logging/tracking
      • Instrument analysis and repair – Return Material Authorizations (RMAs)
    • Issue customer RMAs as needed
      • Receive system RMAs, diagnose issues, and repair problems in a timely manner
      • Manage communication with customer during process including setting expectations on timelines and cost
      • log work performed
      • Ensure application of acceptance test procedures prior to shipment
      • Update systems with RMA detail and inventory adjustments



  • Requirements:
    • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
      • Strong analytical skills to solve problems
      • Troubleshoot instrumentation (general) operation
      • Analyze data and perform protocol development
    • Expertise in one (or more) of the following:
      • Cell Biology
      • Immunology
      • Flow Cytometry
      • Imaging/fluorescence techniques
      • Cell-based assays/protocols
    • Excellent verbal communication skills
    • Excellent written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently without need for continual direction. 
    • Detail oriented/meticulous.
    • Must be adaptable and embrace challenges and change with constantly evolving, cutting-edge technology.
    • Computer skills:
      • Word/Powerpoint/Excel
      • Mac OSX and Windows (Any OS)
  • Desirable (not required) skills:
    • Mechanical/electrical systems assembly/disassembly.
    • Flow Cytometer configuration, repair and/or operation.
    • Immunology expertise
    • Instrumentation skills:
      • Basic circuit knowledge
      • Soldering
      • Laser/Optics knowledge
      • Signal Processing/Analysis
    • Data Analysis/Coding
      • Data Analysis/Manipulation/Interpretation
      • FlowJo or FCSExpress


Required Education/Experience:

  • BS (minimum, MS preferred) in engineering (Bio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) or Biological Sciences, or
  • 5+ years of technical experience with flow cytometry instrumentation and/or role in cellular biology.


Job Location:

Ketchum, ID (Sun Valley, ID region) or West Sacramento, CA (with initial training in Ketchum, ID)


Pay Range:

$60-75k + benefits
